Sarah & Brett’s Wedding - May 26th
Wednesday, May 30th, 2007This past Saturday I was at Halton Hills Place in Milton for Sarah & Brett’s wedding. I recognized the venue right away as I approached from a Christmas Party I DJ’d a couple of years ago. The room is on the main floor, but sunk into the ground about 8 steps. The DJ area is on the main level, so you are about 4 feet above the dance floor which is great, and the load in is even on that level so there are no stairs
At the loading area there is a small little building that has a radio playing in it for a couple of parrots!
During speeches there were some highlights, mainly that the groom was the class clown and played jokes on all of his friends. A couple of funny ones were on a family trip while driving on the highway with his parents and sister he wrote ‘Help We’re Kidnapped’ on an Etch-a-Sketch and put it in the window, as people honked, waved and pointed his mother smiled and waved back to everyone. The groom was known for mailing people weird things like flies, toe nail clippings, letters from Bed Wetter Annonymous, etc. Both the bride and groom had backing out of drive way incidents, one involving a ditch, the other involving a parked car.
I believe it was during the best mans speech, he brought out a huge blown up photo of Brett when he was younger shirtless, I then played ‘Macho Man’ as he showed it around the room and displayed it beside the head table. Another funny story was when they diverted a road detor from a construction zone to a small dead end laneway that people had to reverse out of one at a time.
Once the dancing started the party was happening. We started with the Father/Daughter and Mother/Son which half way through they switched to Grooms Father/Bride and Brides Mother/Groom. The first dance set included Brown Eyed Girl, Old Time Rock & Roll, Sweet Home Alabama, etc. We then got into some newer stuff and even a few tunes that I wouldn’t normally play at a wedding like my favorite remix of 50 Cent In Da Club with Nine Inch Nails. Some other songs that went over well were: Oakenfold Remix of My Love - Justin Timberlake, The Sweet Escape, Usher/Kevin Little - Yeah/Turn Me On Mash-up, Cotton Eyed Joe, Dance Remix of Save A Horse, YMCA, Red Red Wine, etc.
The party was happening right up till 1am and I’m sure it continued at the hotel. Everyone had a great time and I had a ton of people come up to thank me as well which is always nice. Congrats to Brett & Sarah, I had a great time as well!
